Reaching B2B Decision Makers Through Podcasts
Reaching B2B decision makers is a media problem that most digital channels solve poorly. Display ads target a job title and hit everyone else. LinkedIn puts you in front of the right title but competes with inbox fatigue and endless scrolling. Podcast advertising for B2B buyers works differently: a host whose audience already trusts them endorses your product in a format the listener chose to spend time with.
The numbers support that framing. A 2024 Signal Hill Insights study, drawing on 24,505 surveys through Triton Digital, found that 83% of senior executives listen to a podcast in a typical week. For a channel still treated by some planners as niche, that penetration rate should change the conversation.
Why B2B Decision Makers Are Concentrated in Podcasts
Senior professionals have not drifted into podcasts casually. They adopted the medium deliberately, for on-demand business and technology content that fits the specific windows of time they actually have.

The Signal Hill research found that executive podcast listeners represent about 4% of all US adult monthly podcast listeners. That sounds like a small slice. At current US listening scale, it is still a concentrated population of well over a million senior professionals tuning in every week.
What makes this audience valuable beyond raw size is its intensity. Executives are twice as likely as general podcast consumers to be power listeners, consuming five or more hours of content weekly. 29% of executive listeners fall into that category. Light skimmers do not make up this group.
Who These Decision Makers Are
The financial profile of the podcast audience overall is already strong. 56% of monthly US podcast listeners have a household income of $75,000 or more, according to Edison Research’s Podcast Consumer 2024. Edison’s Podcast Consumer 2025 adds that monthly podcast consumers are more likely than the general population to be college-educated and higher-income, with elevated rates of business ownership and home ownership. 18% of weekly podcast consumers are business owners, per Edison Research data.
Executive listeners skew further still. Signal Hill Insights found that 47% of executive podcast listeners are aged 35 to 44, with the large majority falling between 30 and 49. 73% are male. These are the buyers approving enterprise software spend, signing vendor contracts, and deciding which products get a second look.
For a B2B technology or services brand trying to reach a VP of Engineering, a Head of Finance, or a Chief Revenue Officer, that profile describes exactly the person you are competing for everywhere else in your media mix. The difference is that podcast advertising for technology brands often carries a lower cost per impression than LinkedIn or trade publications, while delivering higher engagement and a trust-forward context.
When and How They Listen
Knowing when executive listeners tune in tells you something about the mindset your ad enters.
The dominant listening moment is commuting. 68% of executive podcast listeners tune in during car or truck commutes, well above the 44% rate for general listeners. Another 29% listen on planes or trains, more than double the 13% general listener rate. Executives travel more, and they fill that travel time with audio.
The creative implication is real. A listener in a car or on a plane chose to hit play. They are not half-watching a video while something else runs. A host-read mid-roll in that context lands differently from a display banner flickering at the edge of a browser tab.
51% of executive listeners also tune in during exercise, versus 31% of general listeners. That is a second high-attention, single-tasking window. The listening contexts are focused ones, and host endorsements delivered inside them carry a different weight than ads that interrupt passive browsing.
Matching Your Brand to the Right Shows
Broad reach is not the goal in B2B podcast advertising. Concentration is.
Business, technology, news, and education shows attract the highest share of executive listeners. Comedy, which dominates among general podcast audiences, ranks far lower for this group. The practical takeaway: a focused business podcast with 20,000 listeners who are all VPs and directors will outperform a general-interest show with 200,000 mixed listeners for most B2B purposes.
The Audience Finder is built for this kind of match. It lets you filter by show category, audience profile, and engagement metrics rather than download numbers alone. For a software or technology brand, that means finding shows where your exact buyer is already paying close attention, not just buying impressions against a broad demographic.
Niche shows in financial technology, enterprise software, and leadership categories consistently attract the professional audiences B2B brands need. The podcast listener demographics post goes deeper on how audience composition varies across show categories and income bands.
The Conversion Case for B2B Podcast Ads
Reach is necessary. What listeners do after they hear an ad matters more.
46% of weekly podcast listeners say they are more likely to consider a product after hearing it promoted on a podcast, according to Edison Research’s Podcast Consumer 2024. That consideration rate is the upstream signal for what happens at purchase.
Nielsen’s Podcast Brand Impact Norms Database, covering a large sample of real campaigns, shows podcast advertising delivers an average 10-point lift in brand awareness and a 6-point lift in purchase intent. For a B2B brand where one converted customer can mean a significant contract, a 6-point purchase intent lift across a concentrated professional audience is a meaningful return.
The conversion data from Sounds Profitable’s Advertising Landscape 2025: Reach report puts the downstream number clearly: 44% of weekly podcast listeners have purchased a product or service after hearing a podcast ad.
The spend data shows where B2B categories are already committing budgets. Business Services and Software allocated $88 million to podcast advertising in Q1 2026 alone, per Magellan AI’s global benchmark. Consumer Services and Software came in at $89.9 million in the same quarter. These are not test budgets. They are the scale organizations reach when they have verified the channel works for their buyer.
For brands still running podcasts as a minor experiment, the competitors are already building frequency and trust with the same professional audience.
How to Reach B2B Decision Makers Through Podcasts
B2B decision makers listen to podcasts at higher rates than the general population. A 2024 Signal Hill Insights study found 83% of senior executives tune in weekly. The most effective approach is host-read ads on business, technology, and news shows whose audiences match your buyer profile. Show selection matters more than raw reach, and mid-roll host-read placements in focused listening contexts generate measurable awareness and purchase intent lifts.
